SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES

The school consists of disciplines in English and Hindi both. The school is offering B.A in both English and Hindi. In all there are 12 Foundation courses in Hindi, English & Urdu and four Application Oriented Course in Hindi, English and Urdu.

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

The School offers programmes like Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, History and Sociology. The University offers the programmes in English and Hindi both. The School is also starting a new programme Post Graduation Diploma in Disaster Management in the month of August, 2009.

SCHOOL OF COMMERCE & MANAGEMENT STUDIES

The School of Commerce offers B.Com and B.PP programmes in English and Hindi medium. In Management Programme School is going to start Post Graduation Diploma Programme in Management in English medium in the month of August, 2009.

In Bachelor in Commerce Student can seek admission direct passing 10+2 or through B.PP programme from UOU. The Students can complete their Bachelors Degree minimum in 3 years and maximum in 6 years.

SCHOOL OF TOURISM & HOTEL MANAGEMENT

Professional hospitality education and training today have assumed significance catering to the global hospitality industry and other service sectors. Hospitality business is poised to create many new jobs, requiring appropriate education and training at all levels in this specialized sector of education. Teaching in this specialized area integrates both education and training to create and equip both supervisory level and entry level through a mix of education and training activities. The requirement in this modern arena is to provide a trained manpower in Tourism, and Hospitality & Hotel Administration. The basic objectives of these programmes are to provide certificate to:
a) Persons who are in job and want to upgrade their qualifications.
b) Persons who live in remote areas & hilly terrains where not many options of
Pursuing higher education are available.
c) The aspirants who wish to upgrade their knowledge through distance mode due to many reasons.

Opportunities in the field of tourism and hotel management exist with government tourism departments as well as in the private sector with travel agencies, civil aviation, tour operators and as free lancers. Self employment is a common feature in this sector.

The facilities proposed through norms and standards of this programme shall cater to delivery of the education and training of long and short duration programmes. The demand of the trained personnel in Tourism and Hospitality sectors on annual basis is huge and the objective is to provide training through standardized curriculum, not just for hotel and restaurant business but also for different spectrum of hospitality service sectors. Keeping this in view Uttarakhand Open University has started the academic programmes in Tourism, and Hospitality & Hotel Administration.
At present the School is offering 3 years Bachelor programme in Tourism Studies in English and Hindi medium and One Year Diploma prorgramme in Tourism Studies in English medium only.

In Hotel Management, School offers One Year Diploma Programme in Hotel Management in English medium.

SCHOOL OF JOURNALISM & MASS MEDIA

The University is going to start Post Graduation Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication in the new Academic Session (August, 2009).

UNIVERSITY RULES

Incomplete and Late Applications: Incomplete application forms/ registration forms, received after the due date or having wrong options of courses or electives or false information, will be summarily rejected. Therefore, the candidates are advised to fill the relevant columns carefully and enclose the copies of all the required certificates duly attested by a gazetted officer.

Validity of Admission: Candidates offered admission have to join on or before the due dates specified by the University. In case they want to seek admission for the next session, they have to apply afresh and go through the admission process again. The validity of the admission is for a period of six years.

Admission Forms: Candidates are advised to submit the admission forms at the Programme/Study Centre/Headquarters either by post or in person.

Reservation: The University provides reservation of seats as per the rules of the State Government of Uttarakhand.

Study Material: The University sends study materials to the students by registered post to the address provided by them during admission and if a student does not receive the same for any reason whatsoever, the University shall not be held responsible for that. However, students can get in touch with the Head office of Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani for the redress of their grievances.

Refund of Fees: Fee once paid is not refundable.

Non-payment: Non-payment of fees will result in the non-dispatch of study material. Such students will not be permitted to write their examination.


Change of medium: If any student wants to change the medium of study, then he/she can submit all the study material to the University within 45 days of receipt and have to deposit an amount of Rs.300/- per subject contains 100 marks and Rs.150/- per subject for 50 marks each. The concerned amount should be paid only by the demand draft drawn in favour of “Uttarakhand Open University” payable at ‘Haldwani’.

Change of subjects: If any student wants to change their subject then he/she can submit all the study material to the University within 45 days of receipt and have to deposit an amount of Rs.300/- per subject contains 100 marks and Rs.150/- per subject for 50 marks each. The concerned amount should be paid only by the demand draft drawn in favour of “Uttarakhand Open University” payable at ‘Haldwani’.

Disputes on Admission and other university matters: The place of jurisdiction of filing the suit, if necessary, will be only in the Hon’ble High Court, Nainital, Uttarakhand.
